ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has reiterated that western alignment of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is the foremost priority of government.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, he said Balochistan will be major beneficiary of CPEC. The Minister said all provinces and regions would also benefit from the project.
He said government’s sincerity and commitment to complete the western alignment is reflected by the speedy work currently underway at the site.
The Minister said construction of road along the western route is a challenging task due to terrain.
He said there is no new six-lane motorway project under construction for CPEC. The CPEC plan is to improve and upgrade existing highways for fastest connectivity in the first phase.
The Minister said construction of western alignment will bring a big change in the socio-economic conditions of far flung areas of the country.
Ahsan Iqbal said Gwadar will be connected to Khunjerab through multiple routes as its port will serve different markets and destinations.
