Pakistan, Iran agree to enhance cooperation in diverse sectors

TEHRAN: Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance cooperation in diverse fields, including politics, trade, economy, and security.


The understanding came at the ninth round of Pakistan-Iran political consultations in Tehran.

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry led the Pakistani delegation, whereas the Iranian side was led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Ebrahim Rahimpour.

The two sides also reviewed the regional situation as well as opportunities offered by enhanced connectivity for transit trade.

It was agreed that close cooperation is needed in countering extremism and terrorism, especially the threat posed by organizations such as Daesh.

The Foreign Secretary apprised the Iranian officials of the latest situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir. He also called on Foreign Minister Javad Zarif during the visit.
