KARACHI: Prime Minister (PM) Mohammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday assured the business community that he would be available anytime for anything good for the business of the country, NewsONE reported.
PM Nawaz lauded the policy of reducing the import duty on heavy machinery and plants, saying that it would help boost the industry in the country.
Addressing the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce (FPCC) in Karachi, PM said that the plants can be brought into the tax net once they become operational. Smiling on this occasion, PM Nawaz said that the government wants to trap the businessmen into starting business first, setting up industry as the duties on import of heavy machinery get reduced and then later bring them into the tax net.
Nawaz Sharif said that the government wants to take the private sector together with the public sector in its quest for the progress of Pakistan.
The premier added that the economic indicators of the country are improving. “The investment of 46 billion dollars from China is unprecedented in the country’s history. Our enemies don’t want China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to complete but our resolve is stronger”, he added. PM said that the 660 mega watt projects in Thar will be coal based and we must all congratulate the Chief Minister of Sindh as Thar’s own coal will be utilized for producing electricity.
“We are not neglecting anything. National security, especially Karachi’s security, is our top priority. At the same time, we are also focusing on the power projects. The communication and infrastructure is equally important. We are working on all these things simultaneously”, PM said.
Nawaz criticized the culture of strikes on this occasion, saying that there should be no strike in Karachi as it is the financial hub of the country. “We are going to start the Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway soon”, Nawaz announced on this occasion.
PM was in a light mood on this occasion and shared his past experiences with the attendees that he had enjoyed with the other senior officials of the FPCCI. PM also distributed awards among the FPCCI members on this occasion.
