ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said economic development, overcoming energy shortage, and reduction in poverty are priorities of the government.
He was speaking at a meeting held in Islamabad on Thursday to review the issue of poverty estimation in Pakistan.
Finance Minister said procedure to estimate poverty has been amended and now non-edible items are also clubbed with edible items to estimate poverty.
He said health and improvement in standard of living have also made part of poverty estimation. He said the government has taken numerous steps for reduction in poverty and the welfare of common man.
He said the government has increased BISP amount to 107 billion rupees to eradicate poverty from the society.
Ishaq Dar said the country has been put on the path of development on the economic front. He said comprehensive planning has been done in the energy sector.
He said work is underway on energy projects of 25,000 megawatt. He said 10,000 megawatt of electricity would be added to the system by 2018.
Finance Minister said 35 out of 46 billion dollars of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will be spent through private sector. He said poverty ratio has declined to 9.3 percent in 2014-14, which was at 34.7 percent in 2001-02.
He said record tax collection stood at 2103 billion rupees in first nine months of the current fiscal year, which is a great achievement of the government.
