SBP to issue fresh currency for public on Eid

KARACHI: In line with its tradition, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will utilise the large branch network of commercial banks all over the country and 16 field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation (BSC) for distribution of fresh currency notes to the public to meet their needs on Eid-ul-Fitr.


The SBP BSC field offices, through their counters, will start the issuance of fresh notes with effect from June 25 till the last working day before Eid-ul-Fitr.

There are 150 branches of commercial banks, designated as “Select Branch”, in major cities for issuance of fresh notes under the supervision of the SBP BSC officials.

In addition to this, special quota for fresh notes has also been issued to all commercial banks for their regular clients. The branches of commercial banks will start issuing fresh currency notes from July 2 to the general public.

Under these arrangements, one packet each of Rs 10, Rs 20 and Rs 50 will be issued to each member of the public while fresh notes of Rs 100 will be issued as per stock availability.

For obtaining fresh currency notes, the general public would be required to show their original Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) at the bank’s counter.

SBP BSC has also put in place a strict monitoring mechanism to seek compliance of its instructions and penalising the banks for any violations regarding issuance of fresh currency notes to the general public.
