US stocks open slightly higher as crude oil price stabilizes

NEW YORK: Stocks are opening slightly higher on Wall Street, a day after a sharp decline triggered by a slump oil prices.

Energy stocks recovered some ground early Thursday as the price of crude oil stabilized.

Railroad operator Union Pacific slumped 7 percent after reporting a drop in the amount of freight hauled and weaker results than analysts were expecting.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged up 18 points, or 0.1 percent, to 15,792.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose two points to 1,861. The Nasdaq composite slipped six points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,463.
