Bombay HC suspends Salman Khan sentence in hit and run case

MUMBAI: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan will not go to jail after all.


The Bombay High Court, which within hours had granted Khan interim bail after his conviction on Wednesday, suspended his sentence today pending appeal.

The Bombay High Court heard today the bail plea of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in the 2002 hit-and-run case in which he has been convicted and sentenced to jail for five years by the Sessions Court.

Salman’s appeal for bail was listed for admission on the board of Justice Abhay Thipsay, who had granted him an interim bail for two days.

Salman, who is on bail since last 13 years in this case, was not expected to be present in the High Court today.

The actor on Wednesday was convicted and sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment on various charges under IPC, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, besides penal provisions under Motor Vehicles Act and other laws.
