Indian regional film producer Ajay Krishnan committed suicide at his residence in Thirumullavaram, Kollam (Kerala) on Saturday. He was reportedly dejected over how his debut film as a producer, Avarude Ravukal, had shaped up.
According to a report in Indian media, Krishnan committed suicide after watching a preview of the upcoming film. Quoting an unnamed police source, the report said, “He was concerned over the success of the film at the box office. He had also shared his concern with his parents. It seems that the film cost him Rs 4 crore and he was facing financial crisis. This might have forced him to take the extreme step.”
The film stars actors Asif Ali, Unni Mukundan, Aju Varghese, Vinay Fort, Honey Rose and Lena. Shanil Muhammad, who co-directed Philips and the Monkey Pen, has written as well as directed Avarude Ravukal.
Ajay’s parents, Radhakrishnan Pillai and Jayakumari, were at home at the time of the incident. Krishnan had earlier essayed several small roles in TV serials and movies, including in the Prithviraj-starrer Memories.
