Vidya Balan received a Doctor of Arts Honoris Causa degree from Ahmedabad-based Rai University for her contribution to Hindi cinema.
The actress, currently gearing up for the release of her next film Hamari Adhuri Kahani opposite her Ghanchakkar co-star Emraan Hashmi, attended the event with her family.
It is truly humbling and overwhelming to receive this honour. What makes this even more special is that I complete 10 years in the film industry this year.
‘There can be no bigger compliment for any actor than to have done work that has made a significant mark and also to be looked upon as a role model by young India. I hope to live up to the title,’ Vidya was quoted as saying in a statement.
Vidya’s new film is creating a lot of buzz as it is reportedly based on the love story of producer Mahesh Bhatt’s parents.
The 37-year-old actress was joined by husband Siddharth Roy Kapur, who has recently moved to head Disney India.
Also in attendance to mark the happy occasion were Vidya’s parents and in-laws — mother Saraswathy Balan (far left), father PR Balan (in black) father-in-law (in light blue shirt) and mother-in-law Salome Roy Kapur.
