Director Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt will touch upon all controversial aspects of the actor’s life including his tryst with the underworld.
Speaking at MAMI’s movie mela, Hirani said, “Everything will be part of the film. We are not cutting it.”
While there would be a no attempts made at glorifying Sanjay Dutt, Hirani was initially skeptical about touching the underworld bit of Sanjay Dutt’s life.
Said Hirani, “I was skeptical initially as underworld part is not one of my favourite worlds. When Abhijat (Joshi) and I sat with Sanjay for 25 days and discovered that we want to say this story because it was a human story. It’s an emotional story which also has fun moments. It is also entertaining. It’s about father, son, his friends and his world.”
Raju Hirani also reiterated his commitment to not glorify Sanjay through the biopic.
“The film will not glorify him. I will never ever make a film like to glorify someone. I will make a honest film always. I have made this film as it is a great story.I am a brutal man when it comes to writing scripts. Sanjay was bold about saying things. We are not glorifying him and are saying the story as it is. I am making an honest film. Sanjay has been honest about the film,” Hirani was quoted as saying.
Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor will be playing role of Sanjay Dutt in the biopic. He was an obvious choice for the filmmaker. “The (story of) Sanjay Dutt biopic is something that we did not have to start from scratch as we had a story. When we heard the story from Sanju, we felt Ranbir was the obvious choice,” Hirani said.
Hirani will begin working on the biopic next year.
