Since the clashes broke out in Indian Held Kashmir after the martyrdom of a freedom fighter Burhan Wani in Tral claiming lives of 21 innocent Kashmiri protesters and injuring 200 others.
Many of them protesters who were hit when the Indian security forces fired tear gas canisters and live ammunition on Saturday. Thousands of residents of Occupied Kashmir are defying a government-imposed curfew to take to the streets in protest at the killing on Friday of Burhan Wani. Protests were held in different cities of the occupied Valley with protesters waving Pakistani flags.
Pakistan’s bond with Kashmir is natural, historical, and religious too and people in Pakistan consider the Valley as integral part and for the Kashmiri people Pakistani is the only hope for their freedom.
So it is imperative for media to take a strong stand to highlight the Indian atrocities in the occupied region and project the rights of Kashmiri people to have their homeland free.
All the newspapers, news channels have this responsibility to protect the right of self-determination of Kashmir, which was promised by the United Nations in 1948.
It is observed that media in Pakistan is more focused on leg-pulling of politicians and domestic issues rather than playing a role for a constructive and productive narrative in national interest. Giving in-depth coverage to current situation in the Valley is important to create awareness among the new generation. During the past 12-15 years we have ceded much on Kashmir front, but it’s time that our Kashmiri brothers are supported on every forum regionally and globally.
