Army Chief cancels Sri Lanka visit, heads to Karachi

KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif will visit Karachi today (Wednesday) where he will be briefed by Corps Commander and DG Rangers on Safoora Chowrangi tragedy, sources told.

The Army Chief will also hold a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Earlier today, General Raheel Sharif cancelled his pre-scheduled three-day visit to Sri Lanka after a terrorist attack on a bus near Karachi s Safoora Chowrangi that left at least 43 people dead.

This was confirmed by DG ISPR Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa in a message posted on Twitter.

The Army Chief was scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka this evening on the invitation of Sri Lankan Army Commander Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva.
