KARACHI: The apology tendered by Federal Minister Khawaja Asif over his derogatory remarks in the National Assembly can in no way be deemed as a legitimate apology, Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari said on Thursday.
In a tweet sent out to her 1.04 million followers, Bakhtawar – the daughter of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto – said that Asif did not even attempt to apologise but rather tried to justify his words, which were widely criticized by politicians across the floor.
“In no way can this be deemed as a legitimate apology – does not even attempt to apologise but rather justify,” Bakhtawar said in the tweet to her 1.04 million followers.
Bakhtawar’s tweet was sent as a reply to an earlier tweet by Khawaja Asif carrying a photo of his apology addressed to the NA Speaker.
Earlier today, Bakhtawar’s younger sister Aseefa also joined critics in condemning the federal minister over his derogatory remarks about PTI lawmaker Shireen Mazari in the National Assembly on Friday.
She took to Twitter to express her dislike and said Khawaja Asif’s language was unacceptable and derogatory towards women and against the decorum of the National Assembly.
Aseefa also asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz to take notice of Asif’s behaviour.
“As a woman, please take immediate notice and action,” she asked Maryam Nawaz.
