ATTOCK: Time for polling ended in the by-election for Punjab Assembly Constituency PP-16 in Attock at 5:00 pm and according to initial results from the counting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Jahangir Khanzada is leading the race.

The seat had fallen vacant after the killing of former Punjab home minister Shujaa Khanzada in a terrorist attack.

The ruling party fielded his son Jahangir Khanzada as its candidate from the constituency. Mainstream political parties had unanimously decided not to field their candidates against the PML-N candidate in honor of Shuja Khanzada who became target of militant attack for speaking against terrorism.

However, Dr Naeed Awan, PPP’s district general secretary, decided to contest the by poll as an independent candidate.
