ISLAMABAD: Ayyan Ali, indicted in currency smuggling case has filed reply in the Supreme Court (SC) in case that demands authorities to put her back on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The reply was submitted in the Supreme Court by Ali’s counsel Lateef Khosa. The reply stated that customs authorities never informed about putting Ali’s name on the Exit Control List. Ali learnt about it after media reported the inclusion of the name.
The alleged fact that it was concealed from Ali and her counsels shows administration’s dishonesty, the reply states.
The reply further stated that the prosecutor wants the case to remain subjudice. Trial court handed over Ali’s passport and allowed foreign visits.
Ali stated in the reply that she needs to visit her ailing mother in Dubai and take care of some business commitments.
Ayyan Ali, a supermodel was apprehended at Islamabad airport in March last year after Airport Security Force (ASF) found more than USD 500 cash in her bag.
She was about to board a private airline’s flight to United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Earlier in 2016, Sindh High Court (SHC) had ordered omission of Ali’s name from the Exit Control List and return of her passport. The Supreme Court had annulled high court’s verdict and sought reply within a week.
High court’s decision was annulled on plea filed by customs authorities.
