KARACHI: In an encounter with the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) that took place at the city’s Korangi area on Saturday wee hours. Suspects opened fire upon seeing the police and upon retaliation by the law enforcement personnel as a result two suspects were shot dead, later identified as bank robbers.
The deceased suspects were identified as Farooq alias ‘Chooha’ and Imran Qureshi. One accomplice of the suspects was taken into custody, who was identified as Mohommad Asif.
According to SSP Farooq Awan, most culprits involved in bank heists had either been killed or arrested. In the past, banned militants such as Jundullah and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) used to commit such bank robberies. The robbed sum was then used to carry out terrorism within the country.
SSP Special Investigation revealed that during the past two years, no militant outfits had been involved in the bank heists that had taken place. However, he did admit that in the past such outfits such as Jundullah and TTP had robbed banks.
