KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah on Tuesday arrived in Islamabad to meet Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif tomorrow (Wednesday).

The chief minister will discuss issue of Rangers special powers which has become a bone of contention between the centre and the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Sindh government.

Though the Sindh government extended policing powers of the paramilitary force, it introduced a resolution in the assembly asking the Rangers to operate within its mandate.

The federal government, however, rejected a letter written by the Sindh government with regard to its resolution, granting the Rangers full powers to operate in Karachi.

The PPP-led government has become skeptical of the Rangers and accused it of stepping out of its mandate by conducting raids at the offices of Sindh government.

Qaim Ali Shah and the prime minister are expected to decide the matter amicably.
