KARACHI: Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) on Monday arrested at least 53 Iran-bound immigrants in Balochistan and handed them over to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

According to details, Coast Guards raided a checkpost at Shahjahan Road near Gwadar and took as many as 53 migrants into custody for illegally crossing border.

Coast Guards spokesperson told that the detainees which include two Afghans and 51 Pakistanis were travelling on buses and cars. He also assured that strict security arrangements have been made on sea routes to counter human trafficking.

Coast Guards handed over the apprehended people to FIA after initial investigation.

Several Pakistanis have been arrested near Taftan in the past after paying a heavy amount to agents in order to reach European countries via Iran and Turkey through illegal routes.

The FIA arrests thousands of Pakistanis every year from Taftan and other border areas in Balochistan who want to reach European countries for jobs.
