KARACHI: A local court in Karachi on Monday reserved verdict on investigation officer’s plea regarding physical remand of prime suspect Rizwan in Haleema murder case.
Hearing on the plea was held in Additional District and Session Judge South Abdul Qudoos Memon’s court.
Victim’s brother Amir Jameel was also present in the court.
The suspect’s lawyer stated that investigation officer’s plea was inadmissible for hearing as the police went for media trial instead of interrogation.
He said that more than 30 days have passed whereas the interim challan has also been made therefore; there is no need for the remand and if granted would be illegal.
The lawyer requested the court to reject the plea.
The investigation officer argued that Rizwan helped Haleema to rent a house and abandoned her son Abdullah in Edhi centre.
He requested the court to permit the remand so that the suspect can be further interrogated.
The defense lawyer adopted stance that if the remand is granted then there is a possibility that his client would be strangled to death in the jail by the police authorities or some other action will be taken.
The court after taking notice of arguments of both the parties reserved the verdict in the case till tomorrow and directed to present the suspect on the next hearing.
