KOTLI: In another violation of LoC ceasefire, Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) targeted civilian settlements in Nakial sector of Kotli on Monday morning.

Dozens of houses were damaged as a result of ‘unprovoked’ firing and shelling by the Indian forces in Datote village in Kotli district, however, no loss of life was reported in the incident.

Pakistani troops bafflingly responded to Indian firing.

Despite a 2003 cease-fire, the two neighbors regularly trade fire, the latest coming as India celebrated Independence Day on Saturday. Pakistan observed it a day earlier.

On Saturday, Muhammad Shafi, a resident of village Kanthi Gala was killed and three civilians including Imran, Shahpal and Mistri Rasheed were injured due to Indian firing in the same sector.

The recent fighting comes even as the top security advisers of both countries are scheduled to meet in the Indian capital on Aug. 23. The two men are expected to talk about combatting terrorism in the region.
