KARACHI: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Majeed Abbasi was killed Tuesday when unknown assailants opened fire on a police mobile in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town area.

The DSP was on his way to duty when he was targeted in Shah Latif Town’s Zafar Town area. The slain police official was posted as SP of Site town.

He was critically injured and was being shifted to Jinnah Hospital but succumbed to his wounds on the way, Dr Seemin Jamali, head of emergency at JPMC, told Dawn.

Station House Officer (SHO) Shah Latif Town also said DSP Majeed Abbasi was killed when four unidentified assailants targeted his police mobile near Masjid Ahl Hadees.

Police, Rangers and officers in the Sindh capital have been frequently targeted in Karachi in the fight against militancy, target killings and sectarian violence. Grenades have been lobbed at police stations and vehicles.
