ECP hears petition against PM Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday heard a petition against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif calling for his disqualification over alleged ownership of offshore companies named in the Panama Papers.

Former attorney general Salman Butt represented the prime minister, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

The prime minister’s lawyers asked the ECP for time to come up with an answer.

The ECP adjourned its session till September 28.

The Election Commission of Pakistan received eight references on Monday for disqualification of the Prime Minister, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan and PTI leaders Jehangir Tareen and Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
