KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday ordered police to register a case against SSP Malir Rao Anwar for killing a man during a staged encounter.
Hearing a plea, filed by Amir father, killed in encounter, SHC ordered to register a case against Rao Anwar under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and submit a report in the court.
The father of Amir had lodged an application in the court in which he accused SSP Anwar of killing his son in a fake encounter.
He alleged that Amir was picked up police on Oct 9 last year from Malir district, and after the passage of a few days, he was killed in a staged encounter.
The deceased’s father nominated SSP Malir, SHO Gadap and SHO Sohrab Goth in his application.
Anwar, called the ‘encounter specialist’ by some, is known for carrying out ‘encounters’ of controversial nature against outlaws and has claimed in the past to have killed militants belonging to various terrorist organisations and the then-Mohajir Qaumi Movement activists during his raids.
The majority of such cases remained unquestioned, apart from the few where the families of those shot dead moved the court.
