KARACHI/RAWALPINDI: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday continued its probe for the second day pertaining to bogus degree scandal revolving around the Axact company.
Deputy Director FIA Kamran Ataullah visited Axact headquarter in Karachi where, talking to media, he said forensic experts are examining the confiscated computers and servers of the firm.
Officials of the agency also visited firm’s Rawalpindi office and gathered more evidences.
“Our forensic experts are analysing the data of servers and will stay in the premises for next 24 hours to complete investigation,” Ataullah said.
Statement of Axact’s human resource (HR) manager will also be recorded today by FIA at the firm’s Karachi office while other senior officials would also be interviewed in Rawalpindi.
“Manager HR of Axact has arrived and we will be recording his statement shortly,” Deputy Director FIA added.
Initial investigation revealed that websites of all the fake universities were hosted on a same server.
Further investigation revealed that websites of Axact and its other affiliated group were also hosted on the same server.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) is holding a meeting today after surfacing of the bogus degree scandal.
Officials of HEC and software experts are attending the meeting chaired by Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed.
Record of degrees verified in the last five years has been summoned by HEC.
Upgradation of software in-use by HEC is being discussed along with reverification of degrees issued in the last five years.
HEC found clue of a gang involved in verification of fake degrees. Chairman HEC said the gang is operating from KPK province of Pakistan.
He further added that FIA is in touch with KPK police for the arrest of gang.
Chairman HEC said he is unable to confirm if the gang has any links with Axact.
