RAWALPINDI: Funeral prayer of Lt Col Tauqir who embraced martyrdom last night in a helicopter crash landing at Tarbela was held today (Tuesday) at Chaklala garrison, the ISPR reported.
Lt Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chief of General Staf , Lt Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal, Corps Commander and other Senior serving military and civil officers and relatives of the Shaheed officers attended the funeral prayers.
Shaheed Lt Col will be buried at his ancestral village in Chakwal District with full military honours.
Reportedly, the helicopter was on its routine training flight when it developed a technical problem and met the accident.
The crash is the latest deadly accident to hit Pakistan’s military.
In November last year, Mariyam Mukhtiar, a female Pakistani air force pilot was killed when her trainer jet crashed near the central town of Mianwali, the first such loss for the country’s tiny community of women pilots.
In May, a military helicopter carrying diplomats to inspect a tourism project crashed, killing seven people, including the ambassadors of Norway and Philippines.
In August, another military helicopter being used as an air ambulance crashed near the northern district of Mansehra, killing 12 people.
