Govt considers having census in March or April 2017

ISLAMABAD: Responding upon the orders issued by the Supreme Court, the government is considering to have census next year either during the month of March or April.

The response submitted by the federal government in the court states that the services of the army were required in order to carry census in the country whereas the army was currently involved in battling against terrorists in Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The government stated that the Military Operation Directorate shall review in the month of December about the availability of the army. It was further stated that the matter of having census in the country was dealt by the Council of Common Interests (CCI).

The government hinted that the census may take place either in March or April 2017. In the case of the availability of the army, the federal government shall suggest an appropriate date to the CCI for carrying out census in the country.
