GUJRANWALA: Vote count got under way immediately after polling time came to an end at 5pm in by-election of PP-100.
Heavy rains hampered the voting process at various polling stations during the day.
Close competition is expected today between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the by-elections.
The seat became vacant after PML-N’s Rana Shamshad Ahmad was assassinated on May 31. His elder brother Rana Akhtar is N-League’s candidate in today’s by-elections.
Meantime, PTI has fielded Ehsanullah Virk in a constituency of 162,000 registered voters.
As many as 113 polling stations have been made for the by-polls. Of them, 22 have been declared sensitive.
Pakistan Army will remain on guard for law and order during the voting process.
Gujranwala’s constituency PP-100 is believed to be a strong PML-N bastion which was won by Rana Shamshad of the ruling party with a big margin in 2013 general polls.
