ISLAMABAD: Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has moved Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to seek the details of declared assets of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The plea has been filed by advocate Sheikh Ahsanuddin on behalf of former chief justice. The petition states “in the light of Panama Papers, it is a common suspicion that Nawaz Sharif and his family owns some undeclared assets abroad, hence the ECP should disclose details of declared assets of the prime minister,” according to a statement.

Chaudhry’s legal counsel Sheikh Ahsanuddin said that after a review of Nawaz Sharif’s declared assets, we may also file a separate petition for disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The move comes just a day after a statement of Iftikhar Chaudhry, in which he urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to quit the office till complete investigation into allegations hurled after Panama Papaers revelations.

It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that every parliamentarian has to declare assets owned by him and his close relatives with Election Commission of Pakistan.

Any member of Parliament if found owning undeclared properties can be disqualified from his office.
