ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday lashed out at Defence Minister Khawaja Asif over his derogatory and lewd remarks against Dr Shireen Mazari in National Assembly.

Speaking on the floor of National Assembly yesterday, Khawaja Asif, when interrupted by opposition members during his speech on power cuts, called Dr Shireen Mazari a “tractor-trolley”

His remarks drew sharp condemnations from women lawmakers and members of the civil society.

The defence minister today sent a letter, apologizing to the house and Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for his remarks.

The PTI MNA, however, rejected his apology, saying that Khawaja Asif must directly address her in his letter of apology.

“Kh Asif’s shameful attack on our woman MNA in NA (National Assembly) crossed the bounds of decency at so many levels: societal, cultural, parliamentary,” he tweeted.

“Khawaja Asif, remaining unrepentant, reflects a mentality that cannot comprehend at how many levels his remarks were offensive & unacceptable,” he added. –

Meanwhile, Khan hailed Health Minister Shehram Tarakai and Education Minister Atif Khan as star performers of his party-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

“There is absolutely no truth in rumours that I am disappointed in our KP Ministers Atif & Shahram,” Khan said in a message on Twitter.

“In fact they are Khyber Pakhtunkhwa govt’s star performers,” he added.

Khan’s clarification came as media reports emerged that 20 disgruntled PTI MPAs had singled out the two ministers in their meeting with Imran Khan at Chief Minister House in Peshawar yesterday.

The group had also accused Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak of corruption and going against party’s manifesto
