ISLAMABAD: National Assembly resumed its session in Islamabad on Tuesday with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.
The House began general discussion on the Budget for the year 2015-16.
Initiating the debate on the budget, Leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah thanked the government and the Speaker for agreeing to provide live coverage to the budget debate for the first time. He said, in this way, the people will see the performance of their elected representatives. He hoped that this tradition will continue.
Khursheed Shah said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in Bangladesh is condemnable. He suggested that the House should pass a resolution condemning the statement of Narendra Modi and Foreign Office should also play its role in this regard.
He said Pakistan is a federation comprising four units and the budget should take care of every unit while distributing resources. He said Pakistan is facing numerous challenges and we have to face these challenges. He said in our tenure we had faced many challenges like global recession, high prices of petroleum products and terrorism.
Syed Khursheed Shah criticized the government for not ending load-shedding in the country despite promises.
He said the importance and role of the Parliament should be highlighted as it is the only institution which can resolve the problems of the people. Criticizing the privatization policy of the government, he said the government cheaply sold Heavy Electrical Complex and HBL shares. He criticized imposing of tax on poultry feed and giving exemption on spare parts of aeroplanes and big vehicles.
The Leader of the Opposition said they will support the government for making the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) non-political.
