RAWALPINDI: Pakistan army says that so far 2763 militants have been killed in the ongoing military operations in the country’s restive tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
“One year since the start of the Zarb-e-Azb operation, armed forces have significant achievements in FATA specially North Waziristan Agency and Khyber,” army’s chief spokesman Maj-Gen Asim Bajwa tweeted.
He said that strongholds of militants, their communication infrastructure and sanctuaries have been largely cleared,” he posted.
“The Operation has moved to the last few pickets close to Pakistan-Afgan border,” he said.
“So far 2763 terrorists were killed and 837 hideouts were destroyed. 253 tons of explosives were recovered due to the operation.
“Due to 9000 intelligence-based operations, thousands of terrorists and abettors have been apprehended,” he said.
Bajwa said armed forces killed 218 hard core terrorists in cities while 347 officers and soldiers embraced martyrdom.
In addition, 18, 087 weapons including HMG, LMG, sniper rifles, rocket launcher, AK-47s were searched out of terrorists hide outs from North Waziristan Agency alone.
The whole nation came together to totally eliminate terrorism from Pakistan as media and civil society played a positive role to help end the menace.
“We will continue operations for terror-free Pakistan. A few effects of th operations included improved environment, visit of Chinese President and other dignitaries, Pak-Zimb cricket series and China Pakistan Economic Corridor project.”
