ISLAMABAD: Jahangir Tareen, the Central Organizer, of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, on Friday sent an urgent letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and requested him to stop Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from visiting Lodhran ahead of by-election.

The letter states that the Prime Minister would reportedly make a sudden visit to announce Rs 10 billion development package for Lodhran which could influence by-election in favour of PML-N candidate.

He urged the CEC to take immediate notice of Prime Minister’s visit.

On October 28, the Supreme Court ended stay on conducting of re-election in NA-154 constituency of Lodhran and lifted restriction on PML-N candidate Siddique Baloch to contest the by-election.

Baloch, who won 2013 election as an independent candidate and later joined the PML-N, was de-seated by Multan election tribunal on August 26 over possession of fake degree. His victory was challenged by runner-up candidate Jahangir Tareen.

Earlier, as per ECP schedule, by-election in the constituency was scheduled to be held on 11 October but fresh election schedule has not been issued by the ECP although it’s the 9th day of the Supreme Court decision.
