Karachi: Militant blows himself up during police raid

KARACHI: A suicide bomber blew himself up during a joint action by police and Rangers early on Sunday morning in Rafah-e-Aam Society in Karachi. The blast injured 2 police officers.

The attackers were scheming for terrorist activities on Eid-ul-Azha.

According to the details, police and Rangers conducted joint action in early morning at 3 AM against the suspects on information of presence of terrorists belonging to a banned organization in Rafah-e-Aam Society.

The entry and exit points of the area were sealed and a residential building was besieged. A terrorist inside the building started firing and then blew himself up.

The terrorist was decapitated as a result of the explosion. The blast injured former Station House Officer (SHO) Shoaib Sheikh who was standing near him and an officer named Ashraf. Both injured officers were shifted to the hospital for treatment where Ashraf is said to be in critical condition.

According to the police, the terrorist has been identified as Farhan alias ‘Pehlewan’ who was stated to be a highly wanted terrorist and residing in the area by the name of Farhan.

A large amount of grenades and sabotage equipment was seized during the raid which was disposed off by the Bomb Disposal Squad.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar’s team was part of the raid who himself was present at the incident site. According to Rao, the killed terrorists’ group was involved in the target killing of police officers. He stated that a pistol was also seized from the suspect which will be sent for forensic investigation.
