Vote count is underway in the first phase of local bodies’ elections in Sindh and Punjab.
Polling, which began at 7:30 in the morning closed at 5:30 in the evening.
However, the voters inside the polling stations at the closing time were allowed to cast their votes.
People in large number converged to the polling stations to cast their votes for the local government elections in Punjab and Sindh.
Long queues of voters were witnessed at the polling stations.
In Punjab, polling was held in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Pakpattan, Okara, Lodhran, Vehari and Bahawalnagar districts.
In Sindh, elections were held in Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Qamber Shehdadkot, Larkana, and Jacobabad.
Strict security arrangements were put in place for the elections. Section-144 was also imposed in all the districts where elections were held.
Army’s troops were also there to assist the civil administration to ensure law and order during the polling.
