KARACHI/LAHORE: According to unofficial and unconfirmed results of the first phase of local government elections, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) is leading in Punjab and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Sindh.
Out of the total two thousand six hundred and ninety-six seats in tweleve districts of Punjab, results of two thousand two hundred and one have been announced.
PML-N has won one thousand and five seats, Independents eight hundred and sixty-eight, PTI two hundred and thirty-one, PPP forty-one, PML-Q thirty-three, and JI and PAT got two seats each.
In the eight districts of Sindh, results of seven hundred and seventy seats of the total one thousand and seventy-two seats have been announced.
PPP has bagged five hundred and sixty-nine, Independents one hundred and twenty-nine, PML-F sixty-one, MQM and PTI four each, and PML-N got three seats.
Meanwhile, Free and Fair Election Network says an impressive number of people turned out to vote in the first phase of the Local Government Election in Punjab.
In a statement, the Organization said the elections were relatively peaceful with some procedural irregularities.
The statement said conduct of election itself is a step forward deepening democracy in the country.
FAFEN observed that there has been little action by the Election Commission to enforce its Code of Conduct which was promulgated well ahead of elections.
