Matiari: Polling underway for NA-218 by-election

MATIARI: Polling for by-election in NA-218 in underway on Monday amid tight security arrangements.

The seat was vacant by the demise of Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) president Makhdoom Amin Fahim. Late Fahim’s son, Makhdoom Saeeduz Zaman among five are contesting for the National Assembly (NA) seat.

Farhan Shah belonging to Wahdat-e-Muslimeen and three independent candidates are taking part.

More than 3.8 lac voters will exercise their democratic right in the constituency. At least 263 polling stations have been formed in three tehsils of Mitiari district.

At least 2,600 police have been deployed in the district to counter any insurgency and violent clash.

Among personnel are 200 police commandos and 300 Rangers.

It should be mentioned here that political parties had announced to not stand their candidates in NA-218 constituency after Amin Fahim died of leukemia at age 76.
