KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) suffered a major setback in Karachi’s NA-245 by-elections late Wednesday night as party’s nominee Amjadullah Khan announced his withdrawal from the election in favour of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) candidate Kamal Malik a few hours before the polling is about to begin.
Khan announced his withdrawal during a late night press conference at Nine Zero.
According to the details, Khan presented a list of grievances that he had with PTI. He stated that the local leadership had offered neither support nor any cooperation in the election.
The PTI candidate also complained that PTI chairman Imran Khan had not contacted him a single time for an update on the situation; instead he was left on his own.
Khan stated during the press conference that Imran Khan was a good person but he cannot handle the party.
Speaking on the occasion, MQM leader Amir stated that the results of NA-245 will be no different from those of NA-246.
Meanwhile an emergency press conference called late at night by PTI in response to the candidate s withdrawal was called off within a short time due to clash amongst the party workers.
Journalists and reporters were mistreated while media was stopped from covering the incident.
