The nation celebrates Independence Day today with traditional zeal and fervor pledging afresh to make the country a true Islamic welfare state as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The day dawned with thirty-one gun salute in the federal and twenty-one gun salute in the provincial capitals.
Special prayers were offered after Fajr prayers for prosperity, integrity and solidarity of the country, unity of the Muslim Ummah and success of the long-drawn freedom movement of the Kashmiris.
The main flag hoisting ceremony in connection with Independence Day was held at Convention Center in Islamabad.
President Mamnoon Hussain along with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif hoisted the national flag.
The flag hoisting ceremony featured national songs and documentaries on the progress made by the country in different sectors.
The ceremony was also attended amongst others by the federal ministers, parliamentarians, the chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff committee, the services chiefs and diplomats of different countries.
In Lahore, a number of national flag hoisting ceremonies were held this morning.
The main flag hoisting ceremony was held at the gate of historical Lahore Fort, in front of Hazoori Bagh.
Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was the Chief Guest.
Impressive change of guards ceremonies were also held at mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal this morning.
Floral wreaths were laid at the grave of the national leader.
In Lahore, Pakistan Army 2-Baloch Regiment took over the charge from Punjab Rangers.
Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif also visited Mazar e Iqbal in Lahore today and laid floral wreath on grave of national poet.
He also offered Fateha.

And a smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy Cadets assumed guard duty at Quaid-e-Azam mausoleum in Karachi.
Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah visited the Mazar of Quaid-e-Azam (R A) this morning.
They laid floral wreath on the Mazar separately and offered Fateha.
Sindh Cabinet Ministers and MPAs are also along with them.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the main function in connection with the Independence Day was held Provincial Assembly building Peshawar this morning.
Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, who was chief guest on the occasion, hoisted the national flag.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan hoisted the national flag in Ghalanai Mohmand Agency today.
Chief Minister Balochistan, Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch hoisted the national flag at Provincial Assembly in Quetta.
President Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob hoisted the national flag in Muzaffarabad today.
Chief Minister Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Barjees Tahir and Chief Minister Hafeez ur Rehman hoisted the national flag at Chinar Garden Gilgit.
Speaking on the occasion the Governor said Pakistan was founded under the dynamic leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah after great sacrifices and now it is our responsibility to play role for its prosperity and development.
