Newsmen leave Sindh Assembly over torture on reporters during PIA workers’ protest

KARACHI: The media personnel left ongoing session of Sindh Assembly over torture on reporters and media staffers during the protest of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) workers today (Tuesday).

The newsmen chanted slogans after gathering at the assembly’s stairs while the political parties’ representatives also expressed solidarity with the protesters.

The employees of Dawn News Shafique and Express News’ Agha Rafique sustained severe wounds. The injured were shifted to the hospital for medical assistance.

Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Faisal Sabzwar, senior minister Nisar Ahmed and Mohammad Hussain pledged support to the media and demanded stern action against the culprits.

Earlier, two workers of PIA succumbed to wounds after law enforcers allegedly opened fire to deter protesters’ movement towards Jinnah terminal.

Sindh Police used water cannon to deter the protesting employees who were furthering towards Jinnah International Airport from the head office while Rangers resorted to baton charge.

The law enforcers have been alleged of opening fire that claimed two lives and injured several others.
