ISLAMABAD: The lawmakers from opposition benches in the National Assembly staged a walkout on Monday over an ordinance in connection with the privatisation of the national flag carrier.

Earlier, Opposition leader in National Assembly (NA), Syed Khursheed Shah while speaking from the floor of the lower house slammed the government over its policy in connection with the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

He said issuing one ordinance after another was inappropriate and the practice must stop now. “Think and understand before making any decision,” he added.

Khursheed Shah said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has always opposed privatisation and it will continue to stick to this position.

After the fiery speech of Khursheed Shah, Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir stoop up from his seat and said, “we will respond to the tales just told by the opposition leader”.

This prompted Khursheed Shah to again rise from his seat and resume his flaming speech.

Those who staged walkout included legislators representing Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
