KARACHI: Enraged people took to the streets in parts of Karachi on Friday, manhandling media teams, closing shops and beating up police.
According to reports, unknown people beat up a police constable at Electronic Market in Saddar area. The cop had to run to save his life from the mob.
There are reports of heavy traffic jam on MA Jinnah Road and Saddar.
Some people burned tires at Numaish Chowrangi, leading to the massive traffic jam on the city’s busy thoroughfare.
Empress Market, Boltan Market, Saddar, Electronic Markets were closed due to protests.
Earlier, unidentified men attacked Aaj TV and Express News DSNG in Karachi.
In a press statement, Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) condemned the attack on Aaj TV and called for security of the channel.
In Hyderabad, angry people stormed Hyderabad Press Club, attacking journalists and ransacking the office.
PM condemns ransacking of News channel’s offices
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the ransacking of offices of media houses offices in Lahore and Karachi.
In a statement, he said the Government believes in freedom of media and such attacks are condemnable.
