ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Monday put a ban on broadcasting content related to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain.
In a letter dispatched to all satellite TV channels, PEMRA ordered not to broadcast speeches, statements, pictures, live programme, recorded programme and tickers pertaining to the MQM head.
The letter came hours after Lahore High Court (LHC) directed the PEMRA to place a ban on broadcast on images and speeches of Altaf Hussain.
The court issued the order while hearing a petition seeking Altaf Hussain’s trial under Article 6 of the Constitution.
The MQM has decided to challenge the LHC verdict against the MQM chief.
“Any arbitrary order by the court can be challenged in the Supreme Court,” MQM leader Barrister Farogh Naseem said while addressing a press conference in Karachi.
