ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Saturday termed terrorism and extremism biggest challenges and reiterated the resolve to collectively defeat designs of enemies to make Pakistan secure and prosperous.
The Prime Minister expressed these views during a visit to the headquarters of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) along with Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif.
The ISI Director General briefed the Prime Minister and the COAS on internal and external security situation of the country and ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Recent ongoing successful Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) and the number of terrorist attempts averted in the near past and the terrorist networks busted across the country as a result thereof, were discussed.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also expressed his serious concerns about recent statements by the Indian political leadership.
He said in unequivocal terms that “we would take all possible measures to counter any anti-Pakistan acts.”
The Prime Minister showed his concern over actions of foreign intelligence agencies, in destabilizing the country.
“We will collectively defeat all designs of our enemies and make Pakistan a secure and affluent country no matter what the cost,” he resolved.
According to a statement from the PM House, the Prime Minister lauded the efforts and achievements of ISI in countering attempts of the terrorists.
He paid rich tribute to the officers and men of the agency, who have laid their lives in the line of duty.
The Prime Minister said, “We are proud of our premier intelligence agency and they deserve due recognition and acknowledgement.”
He emphasised the need for more proactive and coordinated role of all intelligence agencies to counter all threats.
Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister, Khawaja Asif, Defence Minister and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Interior Minister, and Special Advisors to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Tariq Fatemi accompanied the Prime Minister.
