PM summons emergency meeting of parliamentary leaders

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has summoned an emergency meeting of all the parliamentary leaders here on Thursday in Islamabad to discuss the issue of MQM lawmakers resignations.

According to sources, the meeting will take place at Prime Minister s chamber in the Parliament.

Earlier today, Nawaz Sharif chaired a consultative meeting to discuss prevailing political situation. Federal ministers and senior members of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) attended the meeting.

The participants discussed prevailing political crisis after day after the MQM MPs’ resignations.

On Wednesday, MQM s 24 MPs in the lower house of parliament, eight senators in the upper house, as well as 51 members in the Sindh Assembly submitted their resignations in protest against ongoing targeted operation in Karachi and alleged extra-judicial killings of their party workers.

Earlier, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar contacted Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar and assured him that the government is ready to address his party’s reservations but there will be no compromise on Karachi operation.

Farooq Sattar said the decision regarding withdrawal of resignations will only be taken by the party chief.
