Protesting lawyers force closure of courts in Karachi

KARACHI: The law practitioners, protesting registration of FIR against a colleague, boycotted proceedings of courts in Karachi and threatened judges.

According to correspondent, the legal fraternity was enraged over lodging of FIR in city court against a senior lawyer Suleman Naeem Abbasi Advocate. The case was lodged against him on Sept. 5, after his altercation with judicial magistrate South, Imran Imam Zaidi.

Demanding exclusion of anti-terrorism clauses from the case, the lawyers boycotted courts today and took out a protest rally from the city court to Sindh High Court (SHC) where they forced the judges and other staff to stop their working.

Reports said the enraged lawyers also threatened judges who resisted the protest and urged the staff to resume working to spare litigants from suffering.

Heavy police contingents arrived at the courts to avert any untoward incident.
