LAHORE: The Punjab government on Tuesday formally confirmed arrest of nine operatives of Islamic State (IS) from Daska in Sialkot.
Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said the suspects wanted to take part in militant activities and they were in contact with Abu Muavia, a militant operating in Syria, through social media.
Sanaullah said the group was busted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), without giving the date of operation in which the militants were taken into custody.
Sanaullah said more arrests would be made on the identification of the suspects. Earlier, an anti-terrorism court in Gujranwal remanded the suspects in police custody for ten days.
The accused included Adnan Babar, Jawad Aslam, Abu Hanifa, Amir Sohail, Ijaz Ahmed and Saeed Ahmed.
Explosive material, weapons and hate literature were recovered from the possession of the accused, according to sources.
