ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday asked Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to resign if can’t fulfill its constitutional obligations of holding local bodies’ elections in Punjab and Sindh.
The apex court while hearing local bodies polls petitions directed the ECP to conduct local bodies election in Punjab and Sindh.
The court observed that not only had the ECP failed to complete its responsibility of holding LG polls, but also failed to fulfill its constitutional obligations.
During the proceedings, Justice Qazi Faez asked from Advocate General of Sindh and Punjab that weather provincial governments is ready to conduct LG polls.
The apex court said that responsibility of ECP to give dates and orders to provincial governments for election not to asks for dates.
