ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday stated that it seems that the local government elections in Islamabad would not be held by July 25.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawad S Khawaja heard a case pertaining to ICT local government polls.
During the case hearing, Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked that court was assured that legislation regarding local government elections will be carried out soon.
Additional Attorney General Amir Rehman told court that passage of ICT Local Government Bill by the Parliament is not possible before Eid.
Meanwhile, Secretary Election Commission Babar Yaqoob informed court that they are ready to hold elections in Islamabad but the government wants to amend the legal draft to hold these elections on party basis.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja directed the Additional Attoney General to inform court regarding duration of approval of bill by Tuesday morning.
