PESHAWAR: Police foiled a terror bid on Friday as they arrested an alleged militant and defused a high intensity explosive near a general bus stand in Peshawar’s Gulbahar area.
“We were informed about a suspected activity near the bus stand and police along with a bomb disposal squad went to the location,” police official said.
A suspect carrying an explosive weighing around 11kg in a water cooler was arrested from near the bus stand,” the official added.
While the bomb disposal unit cordoned off the area to defuse the bomb, police officials carried out investigation following the arrest of the suspect, identified as Wahidullah.
The suspect belonged to the Aurakzai Agency and was allegedly associated with a banned outfit, an official stated.
The official said while defusing the explosive, the IED went off creating panic in the surrounding areas. However, no casualties were reported.
Earlier this year, a blast in Peshawar’s Hayatabad area left two police officials dead while five others were injured.
The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack on the police officers.
