JHELUM: At least seven people died after drinking poisonous moonshine at a wedding event in Christian Colony, Jhelum on Thursday.

The Sindh High Court on Thursday issued orders to close all wine shops across Sindh with immediate effect. Following the court’s orders, authorities began sealing wine shops across the province.

The court said in its ruling that fresh licenses would be issued after detailed scrutiny, for which a new code of conduct would be established. The closure order was also welcomed by representatives of the Christian, Hindu and Sikh communities present inside the court, who said that their religion did not allow consumption of alcohol.
